Tauramena, Casanare – March 19, 2021

To promote quality education and stop children and adolescents dropping out of school, GeoPark is supporting the ‘Learn at Home’ program of Tauramena Mayor’s Office by donating 500 electronic tablets for children in primary and secondary schools in the municipality.

Since it started working in Tauramena, GeoPark has committed to different projects and initiatives to guarantee quality education for children and adolescents in the communities neighboring its operations. Now, as a result of the challenges the Covid-19 pandemic has caused, the Company donated the tablets to the most vulnerable sections of the school population to ensure the continuity of their education from home.

“We thank and congratulate our good neighbor, GeoPark, for continuing to contribute to the development and transformation of our region and for supporting us with this donation that will allow us to guarantee the continuity of Tauramena students’ education,” Mayor Tele Amaya said at the official donation ceremony, which was held with all due biosafety protocols at the Jose Maria Cordoba school.

“We are convinced that the joint work we are developing with the Mayor’s Office of Tauramena contributes to improving the quality of life of our neighbors,” GeoPark Neighbor Relations Manager Luisa Vargas added. “Education is one of the fundamental pillars to guarantee sustainable development, which is why at GeoPark we will continue to contribute decisively to make quality education a reality in the  areas where we have operations.”

Since the United Nations set the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), GeoPark has aligned its socio-environmental projects to promote the fulfillment of these goals and contribute to closing gaps. Donating the tablets corresponds to SDG 4, through contributing to the promotion of inclusive, equitable and quality education, and to the generation of learning opportunities for all.

Five hundred children and their families will benefit from the donation, through which GeoPark confirms its commitment to continue being a partner for its neighboring communities and for regional development.
