GeoPark Gives Study Kits to Casanare Schoolchildren

Casanare, Colombia. July 30, 2021 – In line with its principles of being a good neighbor and to continue to support teaching and better futures for children in the communities neighboring the Llanos 34 block, GeoPark has donated study kits benefitting 1,487 children from rural and urban public schools in Villanueva and Tauramena.

With local authorities and representatives of educational institutions and beneficiary communities, and in compliance with all biosecurity protocols to prevent the spread of Covid-19, GeoPark gave kits to students from 12 villages and the Negriauncas community of Villanueva Afro-descendants.

These kits for Casanare students include exercise books, pens, colors, a notepad and pencils. With the ongoing presence of Covid-19, GeoPark took the opportunity to also provide personal protection equipment such as alcohol, antibacterial gel, and facemasks, as well as promoting basic messages about self-care and preventing Covid-19 contagion.

“This donation helps to ensure that during the pandemic children in our neighboring communities have the basic materials they need for their daily tasks,” GeoPark Neighbor Relations Leader Jenny Barbosa said at the donation ceremony. “Education is one of the fundamental pillars to guarantee sustainable development, which is why at GeoPark we will continue to decisively support all those initiatives that promote quality learning.”

Since it started work in Casanare and as part of its goal to become a development partner, GeoPark has promoted initiatives to promote quality education in its neighboring communities. The Company will continue to lead this type of project to continue contributing to the fulfillment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
