Launching Casanare’s largest community beekeeping project, alongside 26 Villanueva families

Villanueva, Casanare. July 13, 2023 – We are supporting the consolidation of Casanare department’s largest community beekeeping project, which involves 26 rural families from Villanueva. The initiative is part of a social investment project related to the Llanos 87 block that GeoPark operates, and has been carried out in partnership with APIFARMA, a family business of Villanueva beekeepers and herbologists, and seeks to create opportunities for economic and productive development in Casanare.

In this joint effort, we have installed 180 hives in six production sites in the village of La Libertad. We have also provided the necessary inputs to manage the sites and ensured continuous accompaniment through training sessions for the beneficiary families in bee cultivation techniques and making and marketing products.

“We are proud to contribute to the economic and productive development of Villanueva through implementing projects which in addition to representing a source of income and work for our neighboring families generate opportunities for progress and well-being,” said Diego Morales, our Neighbor Relations Manager.

“Beekeeping has enormous potential for the economy of Villanueva,” APIFARMA deputy manager Felipe Puentes said. “Thanks to this project, the beneficiary families who are in charge of managing the hives have already begun to market their products. Promoting this type of project is of vital importance to contribute to the development of the territory.”

By implementing this type of project we show our commitment to promoting the sustainable development of the territories that we operate in. We will continue to work hand in hand with communities and institutional partners to continue promoting initiatives that contribute to our neighbors’ progress.
