At GeoPark, we believe that sustainable territorial development is built on trust, permanent dialogue and joint action. In January-April 2025, we put this into practice in each of the regions where we operate, strengthening our relationships with communities, local authorities and strategic partners.
Our ‘Good News, Good Neighbors’ newsletter shares the stand-out work in our socio-environmental management in Putumayo, Meta and Casanare. Highlights include:
Dialogue is Progress
- We held over 160 dialogue opportunities with communities and authorities
- We received more than 800 visits to Cuéntame offices in Casanare and Putumayo
Promoting local development
- More than 1,600 workers were hired to support our operations in the three departments, of whom more than 80% were local
- We signed procurement contracts with 106 local companies, strengthening the business environment and promoting regional productive development
Socio-environmental investment
- We provided almost 7,000 study kits to children who neighbor our operations
- In Putumayo, we made 95% progress in the construction of the Puerto Bello School (Puerto Asis, Putumayo) and completed improvements to six rural schools in Puerto Asis
- In Casanare, we supported the education of more than 520 children from 7 rural schools in partnership with the Escuela Nueva Foundation
- In Meta, we made 42% progress in the construction of the Orinoquia Regional Monitoring Center, where we partner with IDEAM
- We contributed more than 59,200 biodiversity records to SiB Colombia between January and March as a result of monitoring flora and fauna in the three regions
- In Casanare, we made 97% progress in the Caribayona Wastewater Treatment Plant, repaired 17.5 km of the La Vara-Soceagro road in Villanueva, and strengthened road bridges in partnership with the Government and Parex
- In Casanare, we made over 60% progress in installing solar PV systems in rural areas of Monterrey and Paz de Ariporo, and over 70% progress in providing furniture and cultural elements to 39 educational institutions in Hato Corozal and La Salina. Both projects are part of the Works for Taxes mechanism
- 3 educational energy communities have been set up, and are already benefitting more than 130 people in Putumayo
Transparency in Action
We launched the Environmental Transparency Portal, a website that facilitates access to environmental information about our oil and gas exploration and production projects in Colombia
