As dialogue, shared work, and transparency are fundamental to GeoPark in building relationships of trust with neighboring communities and authorities, we prepare a ‘Good News, Good Neighbors’ newsletter to keep neighbors, authorities and others up to date on the progress of our social and environmental management in Casanare.
This edition covers January-April 2025 and includes data on our dialogue with neighboring communities, the fulfillment of our commitments, and the progress of territorial development projects that we jointly develop.
Significant advances in the period include:
Dialogue is Progress:
- 107 meetings with communities and 14 with authorities
- 569 visits to Cuéntame offices in Villanueva and Tauramena
- We launched José, the Good Neighbor, a new service channel for our contractors and suppliers
- Together with other companies in the sector, we held a workshop on Human Rights and Business to promote responsible development and public-private cooperation in protecting human rights
Transparency in Action
- We launched the Transparency Portal that provides environmental information for our oil and gas exploration and production projects in Colombia
Promoting local development:
- +1,300 workers are linked to our operations
- 80% of workers are local
- 60 local companies provide goods and services
Meeting commitments to move forward:
- 97% progress in the construction of a Domestic Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Caribayona
- 17.5 km of repairs on the La Vara-Soceagro road
- 90% completion in strengthening vehicle bridges over the Tua and Pinalito rivers (in partnership with the Interior Ministry and Parex)
Social and environmental investment:
- 40 beekeeping families are part of a public-private partnership with the Aproapis Association to develop beekeeping in natural forests in Villanueva
- Our monitoring of flora and fauna in Meta, Casanare and Putumayo has resulted in over 59,200 records being contributed to the Colombian Biodiversity Information System (SiB Colombia)
- 7 CRIEET rural schools have received educational material, and teacher training to improve the education of more than 520 children, in partnership with the Escuela Nueva Foundation
- More than 60% progress has been made in installing individual photovoltaic solutions to generate electricity in rural areas of Paz de Ariporo and Monterrey through the Works for Taxes mechanism. https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1EfHKAajYL/
